Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training- Impressions

Attention Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) fans! Your long-awaited return to the next season of the highly anticipated series is just around the corner. Get ready to witness the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Hashira Training- movie, arriving in North American theaters today! Before you rush off to catch this non-traditional film, allow me to share some insights from an advanced screening experience.

The movie acts as a refresher of the previous season's conclusion while also treating fans to a small taste of what they will see in the upcoming season. The new season is the Hashira Training Arc which follows our protagonist Tanjiro recovering from his fight in the swordsmith village and his sister Nezuko who can now withstand sunlight without burning. In preparation for their upcoming battle against the main antagonist Muzan Kibutsuji, the Hashira organizes a hellish boot camp to train the entire Demon Slayer Corps under their guidance. Also, this training is meant to find out who bears the special demon slayer marks like Tanjiro, Muichiro Tokito, and Mitsuri Kanroji. We saw Muichiro and Mitsuri in the final battle unleash their demon marks. The film also explores more about Nezuko’s new ability to walk in the sun and what this might mean for the Demon Slayer Corp. This will get any hardcore Demon Slayer fan hyped and ready for the new season later this year.

I find recap anime movies to be underwhelming. I would want to see a side story or something that is new. Watching the previous season's final episode and the upcoming season's first episode in a movie format feels like a poor value for time and money. However, I understand that some fans enjoy reliving epic battle scenes or a big screen with enhanced audio and I admit that was a nice experience. While the battle scenes in the movie are impressive, it is important to note that once the new season airs, the recap movie becomes redundant. If you are looking for fresh content, this movie may not fully satisfy your expectations. On the other hand, devoted fans who want to be the first to experience anything related to Demon Slayer might find it worthwhile.
