Riot Games New 2D Fighter Will Be Free to Play

Ahead of EVO 2022, Tom Cannon, Senior Director for Project L, Riot’s upcoming 2D fighter, has confirmed that the title will be free-to-play. In addition, Cannon also referred viewers on the video to check out the team’s latest blog post, which also shows off a new character, Illaoi. League of Legends and Legends of Runeterra players will already be familiar with this character.

Narrative Director Scott “Jaredan” Hawkes added, “although she’s not one of the more popular champions in League, I think it’s easy to see how Illaoi’s combination of bruised knuckles, devout heart, and joyous swagger (combined with all the new experiences we can put in players’ hands) can make her a superstar in Project L.” More information on Illaloi and the team’s creative direction for the character and game can be found in the blog post here.

At this point, Project L still does not have a firm release date or platform.
