“In Project ATOM, you're a human who stumbled into the stylish world of Totopia, inhabited by the vibrant and fashionable Atomons! Totopia is set in a near-future internet world, on a digital continent of the same name. Once a vibrant land full of imagination, creativity, and warmth, Totopia is now overcome with an unprecedented crisis known as "Bitrot." Team up with various Atomons to unlock new abilities and engage in a mix of 3D exploration and stylish action platforming as you fight to cleanse Totopia from Bitrot.”
At PAX West 2025 this year, I stumbled across Project ATOM, an adorable action-based platformer, produced by JNG Studios. The booth piqued my curiosity with its vibrant colors and adorable aesthetics. I visited the booth with my 5 year old daughter and she absolutely had a blast trying the game. Easy to pick up, and with its kawaii aesthetics, my little novice gamer was instantly hooked. There was an option to use the keyboard and controller. Since my little one is more familiar with the controller, she opt to use the controller. There are three main modes: campaign (story mode), tournament, and party time. In the campaign, the player will complete levels to unlock the story and various characters and sidekicks (Atomons). The story stages combine side-scrolling action, 3D exploration, and various boss encounters. Next is the tournament – a 3 round elimination free-for-all, similar to Fall Guys. Lastly, in party time, participate in a wide variety of mini games, fighting alongside Atomons and using their abilities to assist – reminiscent of Mario Party.

One of the things that was highlighted was that the characters are highly customizable. There are tons of options for hairstyles, clothing, and accessories. Essentially, no two characters will look the same. My impression of the game was that it is easy to pick-up and an overall, relaxing and enjoyable game. It is definitely a game I can see playing with friends casually to wind-down after a long day or as a party game with guests over at the house, or with my kid. It can be as easy, or as difficult of a game the player wants it to be. There are races, brawls, and time trials to compete in. There is a life-sim world where players can build their community. I can say this seems like a game that all ages can enjoy. Since PAX, my daughter’s been asking about this game. I’m looking forward to its release and do a deeper dive into the world of Totopia.
