Gyakuten Kenji 2, sequel to Gyakuten Kenji or Ace Attorney Investigations, has just been announced. It will feature a new gameplay system, which has yet to be detailed. The only clue that’s been given is that key word for it is “chess.” Perhaps this means players will begin “trapping” enemies’ faulty logic until they get a “checkmate?” Otherwise, gameplay doesn’t seem to change much. More after the jump.

Investigations placed players in the shoes of Miles Edgeworth, a prosecutor in the Ace Attorney universe. Originally, players played as Phoenix Wright, a defense attorney, in the Ace Attorney series, which was a totally different direction from Investigation. However, Investigations managed to keep the logic centered, high speed argument gameplay fans came to love from Ace Attorney.

In Investigations, players scour crime scenes for evidence, use logic to deduce conclusions about the crime, and confront various characters related to it. Investigations is a puzzle and RPG game all rolled into one and fans of either genre should give the game a try. As of now, there is no specific release date for either the US or Japan.
