Tales of Phantasia from Bandai Namco now available on the iPhone/iPad

Not satisfied with a mere name change, Bandai Namco (formerly known as Namco Bandai) has stealth released the Super Nintendo/PlayStation One classic Tales of Phantasia on the iOS App Store in the United States and Canada. This release is a "free" enhanced port of the first installment of the Tales of series without any required in-game purchases to play through it. The only caveat, you must have an active internet connection to play the game.

The port features animation sequences along with Japanese voice-overs for important events, main story cutscenes and during battles. Although the game does not a pay-to-play transaction model, the difficulty of the game has been raised to encourage players to buy optional items such as status boosts and items to revive characters after death.

Tales of Phantasia follows the story of two young heroes, Cress and Chester, who must prevent the resurrection of the evil sorcerer king, Dhaos. As with the original, the game uses a linear motion battle system where players control one person while the rest of the team is controlled by the computer. Other Tales games that will be released this year includes Tales of Symphonia Chronicles in February and Tales of Xillia 2 later this year.
