Toy company Mattel and online streaming giant Netflix announced they are working on a live-action movie adaptation of the Masters of the Universe franchise.
Unsurprisingly, the story has been reimagined staring Kyle Allen who plays Adam, an orphan who discovers he is a prince of a faraway land destined to save his home from an evil force.
“We’ve always been inspired by the fantastical world of Eternia,” said producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch. “This movie has been 14 years in the making for us and our partners and we are so excited to tell an entirely new story for Masters of the Universe with the Nee Brothers and Dave Callaham for Mattel and Netflix and share it with a global audience.”
Masters of the Universe began as a successful toy line by Mattel in 1982 which spawned the iconic televised cartoon, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Given Netflix's recent mixed reviews by fans with live-action adaptations (Cowboy Bebop) and spiritual sequels (Masters of the Universe: Revelation), this movie can't be worse than the original live-action 1987 Masters of the Universe film, we hope?
Production is expected to begin this summer 2022.
