Netflix Announces Release Date for Feature Film "Drifting Home" - 9/16/22

Netflix has been going through some tumult as of late but they haven't given up the animation ghost yet. They've announced a release date of September 16 for the film Drifting Home (Japanese title: Ame wo Tsugeru Hyouryuu Danchi).

Drifting Home is directed by Hiroyasu Ishida (Penguin Highway) with screenplay by Hayashi Mori (live action adaptation for Saki), and Ishida.

Studio Colorido is the main animation unit behind the movie. They've worked on films such as Penguin Highway, A Whisker Away, and notably, Kubo Tite's Burn the Witch.

The Japanese voice cast includes Mutsumi Tamura, Asami Seto, Daiki Yamashita, Yumiko Kobayashi, Inori Minase, and Kana Hanazawa.

Drifting Home is about childhood friends Kosuke and Natsume, who have grown apart over time. Along with a group of their classmates, they go to explore the apartment complex they grew up in before it gets demolished. Something happens and they lose consciousness, only to wake up still inside the apartment complex, but now in an unknown world. The complex floats in the middle of a vast ocean. The children must now learn to get along, and more importantly, survive.
