E3 2018: The Last of Us Part II Debuts A New Trailer

We expected to see more of The Last of Us Part II at E3 2018 and it didn't fail to impress. Sony revealed a new gameplay trailer during its media showcase and it was both passionate and horrifying.

The trailer opens up to a more adult Ellie, talking to a man in what seems like a party. Later on, Ellie is joined by another female character that leads her onto the dance floor, where they share a very intimate kiss together.

During their discussion, Ellie explains that she is, "Just a girl, not a threat." Her partner, says that she thinks everyone should be terrified of Ellie. Their kiss smoothly transitions into a very violent scene where Ellie is slitting a man's throat. We then get to see an extended gameplay demo, with Ellie sneaking around the city, which looks just as in ruins as the first game, but also taken by nature.

After a struggle with a couple of bandits, Ellie conceals herself in some grass, then hides underneath a car. A detection meter is shown as they are searching for her, and they soon discover her and Ellie must once again endure a very brutal fight. She quickly moves around the area, grabbing a bottle and throws it into the enemies face before running into what appears to be a shop and hiding behind a counter.

Three enemies catch up to her, one wielding a giant axe. They search the room for her, but Ellie manages to craft an explosive arrow while sneaking around them. With it crafted, she fires it at an enemy, that creates a huge explosion. Ellie shows herself to be very capable, swiftly slipping between shelves to get around her enemies and getting the advantage on them. She eventually brings one of the bigger enemies down to his knees and ruthlessly sinks an axe into the incapacitated enemy.

The trailer then transitions back to Ellie at the dance with her partner kissing. It's an intense trailer that does a great job of showcasing themes of tenderness, and innocence with the sheer brutality of surviving.

The last of Us Part II shocked us with a trailer shown in 2017 that showed a violent scene during an apocalypse where humanity was clinging to life. It was a dark and disturbing trailer to watch, and this E3 2018 gameplay trailer seems to suggest that this violent tone will be a huge part of the game.
