It’s no surprise that there are many popular multiplayer games like Fortnite or Apex Legends. So what happens when you take a 7v1 multiplayer game and stick the Dragon Ball brand onto it? You get Dragon Ball: The Breakers.
Regarding presentation, Dragon Ball: The Breakers is beautiful with detailed worlds and colorful characters that look as if they were straight from the anime itself. The world seemed to be very well developed with lots of secrets to find. After a 30 min demo session, I am happy to report that I am very intrigued.
The gameplay is pretty straightforward. There is one antagonist called a raider and ordinary citizens called survivors, who are tasked with escaping the battlefield while avoiding the raider. During my demo session, I played as a survivor. I could traverse the environment with a grappling hook that would fling my character towards the target location, making it easy to get around. Each area had an objective to complete so my team was mainly split up. There were crates that would contain different power-ups and items to use. I found a rocket launcher-type weapon that was great for self-defense when fighting the raider.
Additionally, there are transpheres, that would allow survivors to transform into super warriors from the Dragon Ball series. I was able to transform myself into the character Vegeta and gained a slight upper hand when fighting the raider. You can also use the flight from the super warriors to keep your distance from the raider when you need a quick escape. My demo session ended in victory as my team was able to complete the necessary objectives to escape the island while surviving against the raider.
Personally, It’s exciting to see a top-shelf developer, like Bandai Namco put their spin on the survival co-op genre. Fans of Dragon Ball and online multiplayer survival games should feel right at home with this title with its over-the-top action and fun battle mechanics, make this a game you won’t want to miss. Dragon Ball: The Breakers release is right around the corner and I cannot wait to jump back in.
