Fae Farm (PC) Review

With many different farming sim games on the rise like Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, and many others, it's not surprising that other companies would like to take on the challenge of making the next great farming sim. Fae Farm is the newest cozy farming sim from the developers at Phoenix Labs and is sure to turn some heads.

Fae Farm's story starts you off by creating your own protagonist and puts you in the world of Azoria. Similar to Animal Crossing your protagonist will be tasked with meeting people around town and going on quests while gathering various materials to build up your home.

Visually Fae Farm is a very colorful game. The small chibi-like characters are cute and adorable and while not much to look at I did enjoy the very beautiful hand-drawn illustrations that would be featured during story cutscenes. The user interface is nice and clean and very easy to navigate and the game has lots of pretty and vibrant special effects.

The appeal of a farming sim often lies in its relaxation and immersion factor, making it an ideal escape for players looking to unwind while experiencing the joys and challenges of rural life. Fae Farm's gameplay contains many similar elements from games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon. During the day you can gather various materials around town to craft items for your house.

Crafting was a little on the slow side as once you started crafting a recipe it would take a few minutes for it to finish resulting in just waiting around sometimes. Other activities include fishing and bug catching and making friends to deepen your relationship with the local townspeople. I wish the townspeople didn't feel so lifeless as they don't seem to ever be interested in your character personally and just seem to have a very one-sided generic response.

Dungeons are another way to gather materials and gain experience. While in a dungeon there will be lots of materials to gather as well as different enemies to fight. The battle system is pretty simplistic and didn't offer any challenge for those worried that the game was going more toward action than just a simple farming simulation. As you get to higher floors you get access to higher quality materials and there will be even stronger enemies.

Fae Farm offers a cozy and relaxing experience taking inspiration from games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon alike. It's super easy for anyone to pick up and play and doesn't offer too much of a challenge and is visually pleasing to the eyes. So, if you're looking for the next farming sim to start your adventure, then look no further than Fae Farm and get to grinding.
