For the third installment of Real Escape Game, the company decided to go with the Neon Genesis Evangelion theme and have players 'escape' from an Angel attack. Entitled Escape From an Angel: Real Escape Game X Evangelion, players are tasked to be new NERV employees who are in the middle of orientation when an Angel attacks. Under Commander Kusaragi's orders, players are to escape from the NERV base using clues left by MAGI, NERV's super computer that is responsible for coordinating combat strategies as well as day to day operations, while Unit 01 defends the base for sixty minutes.
Working as either an individual or with a team, players were to use provided materials to locate and decipher cryptic clues to try to 'escape'. While I cannot disclose what the actual clues were, I can say that some of the solutions were unorthodox yet very much in line with the Evangelion world. Requiring some out of the box thinking, a little ingenuity, and use of every piece of material provided, players should be able to 'escape'.
In my case, I 'died' as I failed to escape within the sixty-minute time limit. So, with my fellow players, we were taken to a room where we were given the answers to the clues. You can believe me when I say that there were many 'facepalm' moments, particularly when it came to some of the clues, as once you got past the first set of clues, the second half were just ridiculous. Upon seeing the solutions for the second half, I was left shaking my head, and when the final clues were revealed, I nearly wanted to rip up all of my materials and turn them into confetti.
As all solutions were revealed and we were allowed to leave, I had realized that everything about this 'game' was quite ingenious, right down to final solution for escaping. Needless to say, I wouldn't mind participating again to see if I could escape from an Angel attack.
