Arcade BlazBlue Catches Up

An update to the arcade version of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift will make an appearance at the Amusement Machine Show. Valkenhayn, the second downloadable character to be announced, will also be playable at the event. The game will be dubbed BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II, the first time an updated Arc System Works game will contain a number. Most likely, the updated version will include console downloadable characters, rather than balance changes and new features like those in Continuum Shift. More after the jump.

Update: Vanquish Demo in US

Previously announced for Japan, Vanquish’s demo will be coming stateside August 31. According to Sega community manager Julian Mehlfeld, the demo will include the same level that players were able to enjoy at E3. In addition, it will include various difficulty levels and a tutorial mode; hopefully this means that players will be able to enjoy the high-speed combat and not fling around the stage wildly instead. On top of that, we’re going to get it two days before Japan! Scrap those plans to make Japanese PSN or Xbox LIVE accounts.

How Fights Work in Yakuza PSP

Various fighting modes have been revealed for Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinsho, Sega’s upcoming Yakuza spin-off. There will be three modes: Submission Battle, Tag Match, and Team Battle. In addition, players will be able to create their own characters and take them into the ad-hoc duels. Apparently, none of the modes will feature life bars, which developers say will enhance the overall atmosphere. No idea how players will know if they’re winning or losing as of yet. More after the jump.

Be a Yakuza Ice Cream and Sushi Chef

Upcoming Yakuza Playstation Portable spinoff Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinsho will feature nightlife minigames, which include games like UFO catchers or part time jobs. These were common in the series, but part time jobs seem to be a new feature. The part time job minigames will consist of button commands, which will effectively make these a series of rhythm games. Apparently, these will also fund the players’ nightlife activities, meaning they can’t just slack off and go to the karaoke or massage parlor all the time. List of activities and screenshots after the jump.

Twinkle Queen, the new Milestone crossover fighter featuring characters from various visual novels, will incorporate elements from many other established fighting games. The game will be a 2-on-2 fighter, allowing players to switch out characters throughout fights, including while being hit, blocking, or during a combo. While attacking, players will also be able to tap forward twice to dash out of an attack animation and continue a combo. The most risky gameplay feature lets players tap forward in order to cancel out an incoming attack and counterattack immediately. More after the jump.

Try Out Vanquish in Two Weeks

Shinji Mikami, director of upcoming fast-paced action title Vanquish, has announced a playable demo of the game to be released online September 2. Apparently, the demo will be different from the one at Tokyo Game Show and include more difficulty settings than the one we tried at E3. Players should definitely give the game a try, considering Mikami’s pedigree with previous titles like the Resident Evil series and Bayonetta. No word yet on a demo for the American Playstation Network or Xbox LIVE Marketplace, but there was one for Bayonetta so fans should sit tight. The game is currently set to be released on October 19 in the US. Screenshots and trailer after the jump.

So recently, I’ve been playing this game that I know a lot of you have heard of…LovePlus+. I write that with some shame, by the way. And I can’t help but ask myself, “What’s the deal with this game?!”

Heroes' Paradise Getting Western-y Release

At Gamescom, the leading game expo in Europe, Konami Europe announced they will be picking up No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise for the Playstation 3 and adding Playstation Move controls to it. The main appeal of Heroes’ Paradise is that it will be in HD, though it lacked the Wii’s motion controls; now fans can have the best of both worlds. No word on an American or Xbox 360 release yet, but fans can still rejoice that we are in the age of region-free gaming. More after the jump.

While the newest game in the popular mecha series Front Mission will be an action game – Front Mission Evolved – Square Enix just announced that Front Mission 3 from the original Playstation will be released on the digital Playstation Store in Europe. No word yet on an American release. Front Mission fans have been somewhat split up over the latest iteration that turned the classic franchise into a third person action game, but this will be a great chance both for old time fans to relive the adventures and newcomers to see the franchise’s roots. More Front Mission details after the jump and a gameplay video of Front Mission 3 from the Playstation release.
