Aniplex Online Fest 2023 Returns on September 9!

Written by

Aniplex has been holding the Aniplex Online Fest since 2020. It was originally used as a replacement for their usual convention schedule and now serves as a supplemental event putting a spotlight on a number of their franchises.  They'll be coming back once again for another star-studded and anime-filled event next month.

You ever get one of those things where you're both surprised and not surprised at the same time?  Well, this is one of them. Hear me out: Love Live x idolm@ster.  The shorthand for this mega-mashup is "Ijigen."

Day 3 of Anime Expo 2023 started out with a bang for attendees interested in the U.S. premiere of Rurouni Kenshin. Not only were fans treated to the first adaptive episode of a beloved anime series but also graced by the presence of the producer Masami Niwa, Kenshin Himura’s voice actor Soma Saito, and Kaoru Kamiya’s voice actress Rie Takahashi. All in all, the experience was memorable in more ways than one.

Studio Trigger's latest series is Delicious in Dungeon (known as Dungeon Meshi in Japanese).  We briefly touched about it in our Trigger panel review and this particular article will be focused solely on the anime, whose first episode had its world premiere at this year's Anime Expo.

Throughout the weekend of July 4, HIDIVE premiered a number of new anime series.  One of those is The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainness to Savior (I'm going to shorten it to Last Boss Queen due to the full title being quite a mouthful).

Last Boss Queen is part of what you can call the "villainess" genre, which has been growing in popularity.  The story focuses on Pride Royal Ivy (voiced by Fairouz Ai), or more accurately, a girl who has reincarnated as Pride from the fictitious game Our Ray of Light.  That's a fairly common theme in the villain genre, where a person from the modern era dies or is transported to another world and becomes another character.  I'm going to give an introduction and a run down of the first two episodes, and my thoughts overall.

Dark Gathering Anime Premiere at Anime Expo 2023

Another of HIDIVE's series premieres at Anime Expo was the anime Dark Gathering. I have been reading Dark Gathering since its inception and when I saw it on the schedule, I quickly slotted it into my list of things to see.

At Anime Expo 2023, Netflix revealed that the beloved voice cast from the Japanese One Piece anime series will be dubbing the upcoming live-action adaptation. A video showcased during the panel featured an encounter between Iñaki Godoy, who portrays Monkey D. Luffy in the live-action version, and Mayumi Tanaka, the iconic voice behind Luffy's character.

You can watch this video below.

Studio Trigger makes a triumphant return to Anime Expo with their usual array of new announcements. This year, they revealed three exciting projects.

The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen:

HIDIVE is one of the many streaming options for anime fans in English and they'll be present at the biggest anime convention on the west coast, Anime Expo.
