With Miyazaki Hayao in town to receive the Berkeley Japan Prize from The Center of Japanese Studies at the University of Califoria, Berkeley, the center has been in full swing to discuss Miyazaki's work as an artist and an intellectual. On the morning of July 25, eight hours before Miyazaki gave his speech to a sold out audience in Berkeley's Zellerbach hall, three scholars got together at the East Asian Studies department's conference room to discuss the academic side of Miyazaki's use of technology and children in his films.
The female mangaka powerhouse group, CLAMP announced yesterday that they are contributing costume designs for the console port of the arcade fighting game Tekken 6. So far the only public design released is that of Jin Kazama sporting a white outfit with a cape in the latest issue of Famitsu Magazine. The beefy guys and bouncy chested gals of Tekken could use a classy feminine touch. Expect to see a lot of elaborate flowery dresses and suits with plenty of swishy and feathery capes. CLAMP has also previously in past provided costume and character designs for other series such as Code Geass. Screenshot inside.

Typically we do not report such news but due to the overwhelming influence this series had on the figure industry, we felt it was necessary.

During the Masquerade at FanimeCon 2009, a group did a skit for the series The Familiar of Zero (Zero no Tsukaima) using an English dub of a popular Touhou related Nico Nico Douga song 'Tsurupettan.' We will simply call 'Tiny Flat Chest.' It was a hilarious skit and the bad news is unfortunately we did not film the Masquerade this year though we did take pictures of it as seen in the news image.
Good news is that a video of it should pop up within the next few days and a quick search on Google yielded an image board post containing the song in MP3 format. We have uploaded the song to our server, so get downloading!

Yes I know we're late but you can find version 1 of the summer anime list inside. Kind of a dry list isn't it?
Most fans are well aware already that the rumored season 2 of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya back in February turned out to be a rerun. New information surfaced last week that a representative from the broadcasting station Teletama mentioned that the rerun of the series will be 28 episodes long. The original series was 14 episodes aired out of order, while the rerun episodes are being aired in order. Logically speaking the station will air the remaining new season 2 of the series after the rerun. We'll keep you updated if anything new turns up.
Akibablog reports that several stores in Akihabara began selling Evangelion pork flavored garlic instant ramen for 380 yen at BlueLamm, and 500 yen at Lammtarra Epixis. Online retailer Amiami apparently carried it at one point but was forced to halt sale. The ramen is suppose to be a prize item at Pachinko parlors and at some arcades only. Interestingly, the instant ramen contains AT-Field shaped fish cakes. See for yourself inside.
The trailer for the Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance was released last week. The movie will be in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2009. For those of you who have not seen it yet, we have included it after the jump.
Announced almost a year ago, the official Eureka Seven website has posted up a trailer of the movie retelling of the series. The movie will be released on April 25, 2009.
You can also find the video and the newest scan of the movie from the lastest issue of Newtype Magazine inside.
Gainax released a second trailer for the movie, Ragan-hen a couple days ago featuring a new song by Shoko Nakagawa. The film will be shown in theaters on September 6 2009 in Japan.

Here's a more complete list of anime series airing this Spring 2009. The list is a bit more impressive than Winter's, with the new Full Metal Alchemist, and the adaptation of the hit Playstation 3 game Valkyria Chronicles.
As usual, make sure to click the full screen button on the lower right hand corner of the image after you've enlarged it inside.
Announced in last month's issue of Newtype Magazine, Kobato will be animated by Madhouse Studios and be aired in Fall (Autumn) 2009 on NHK. CLAMP's own Nanase Ohkawa will be directly involved in the project by providing the character designs.
Kobato is roughly about a young girl named Kobato Hanato who needs to fill a strange bottle with the feelings of pain and suffering from people's hearts by making them happy. Along the way, she is accompanied by an ill tempered stuffed toy dog named Ioryogi.
The first time I remember hearing about this title was back in 2006 at Anime Expo during CLAMP's visit. One of them had a plushie of Ioryogi and mentioned it was their newest work in Japan. Some Americans probably already had a taste of this series as the manga had a brief appearance in Newtype USA running from June 2007 to May 2008 for a total of nine installments. I probably definitely will be checking the anime out, and fans of CLAMP will probably enjoy this.
Scans of the Kobato anime feature in Newtype Magazine are inside.
That's right, many have wondered when a Hare Hare Yukai dance of the Figma figures would be released and the answer is now! Apparently it took the creator 5 months to make it. If memory serves me correctly, Max Factory commissioned the original creator of the stop motion Gundam Hare Hare Yukai video to make this.

ANN reports that the January issue of Animedia contained a quote from the production staff of Code Geass at Sunrise Studios:
"All of you have shown us much appreciation and made the DVDs as well as the CDs so popular. Really, we have been blessed with fervent fans…. Thank you very much. Like we have said before, [a major character development happened] but Geass cannot die. It just ended, but we think it would be nice if we can still do something more. In any case, when we can announce something, in the not-so-distant future…"
Whether an actual sequel, prequel, or simply a spinoff is unknown but definitely Sunrise is not going to stop milking the cash cow.
