Fate/Extra is one of the latest chapters in the highly popular Fate/stay night series by visual novel maker, Type-Moon. Fans of the franchise will be pleased to know the game scenario was written by Kinoko Nasu who wrote the original Fate/stay night story and most of Type-Moon's flagship titles. The game was developed in collaboration with Imageepoch who also worked on the Black Rock Shooter PSP game, while Aksys Games handled the American localization. As a warning, this review does contain a few minor spoilers but nothing you won't figure out within the first couple hours of playing.
Bringing back some nostalgia for the 90’s gamer, SNK Playmore has released NEOGEO Station on the Playstation Network, which can be accessed from the PS3. This is largely a celebration of SNK’s 20th anniversary in 2010. Included in this package are 10 titles, many of which will bring back fond memories for older gamers, but may also destroy some childhood memories.

Zettai Hero Project: Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman takes dungeon exploring and blends it with the deep gameplay fans have come to love from the Disgaea series. Like Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? and Cladun: This is an RPG!, ZHP disregards the norm and brings a blend of addictive gameplay and off the wall comedy that makes the game one of the more desirable handheld titles this year.
Japanese studio Gust isn't known for heavy hitting, big budget titles. It is a niche company, specialized in RPGs. Gust is known for the Atelier, Mana Khemia, and Ar tonelico series. They recently continued their flagship Atelier series with the release of Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland. Atelier Rorona is the story of amateur alchemist Rorona, who has recently gotten her hands on a workshop. She must do everything she can to keep it open. Atelier Rorona is the first North American Gust game on the Playstation 3, but does it have the same appeal as previous Atelier titles?
Nippion Ichi Software (NIS) continues it's streak of awkward, yet innovated RPGs with the release of Cladun: This is an RPG! Cladun is what gamers may call an 8-bit dungeon crawler. Dungeon crawlers allow players to wander around a series of randomly generated dungeons and search for rare items. Dungeon crawlers have been around for years. Cladun takes the gameplay of dungeon crawlers and adds a little humor to make it one of the best downloadable and affordable RPGs for the Playstation Portable (PSP).
Gundemonium Collection is a collection of three games, Gundemonium Recollection, GundeadliGne, and Hitogata Happa that Rockin’ Android has released recently. Developed by Platine Depositif, this collection is a classic bullet hell shooters that hardcore fans and masochists alike will dig. Last Rebellion is the first console RPG developed by studio Hit Maker and published by RPG giant, Nippon Ichi Software. Hit Maker’s previous entries, Dragoneer's Aria, Blade Dancer, and A Witch's Tale were decent RPGs in their own right, but this is Hit Maker’s first attempt on the Playstation 3. The thought of these two companies working together is very exciting. Last Rebellion is a game that many gamers will over look because it's not as popular as a Final Fantasy or Star Ocean game. Does Last Rebellion have the potential to become a great hit?
Most people are used to believing that justice prevails in a struggle. Somehow, it does not feel right if a story ends with the demise of good. At the same time, the audience is often unsatisfied and even outraged if the protagonist fails to spread light, love, and peace. As a consequence, from fairytales to popular movies like Iron Man 2, stories are dominated by happy endings and the prevalence of justice.
However, people get bored of trite, predictable plots, and that is probably why developers made some of the games that will be shown in this review series. In these games, players play not as a hero who vanquishes darkness. Instead, they will assume the opposite role: an evil lord who builds dungeons to slay the invading heroes, breeds monsters, and carve a path of destruction and torment toward global domination. Released two years ago, No More Heroes left a large impression with its sexual references, fountains of blood, and the memorable use of toilets as save points – all of which were used tastefully or humorously, but never excessively. Demon’s Souls is probably the most frustrating, yet rewardingly epic, experience on the Playstation 3. There are many moments where players will want to chuck their controllers at the TV, but this game will still have them coming back for more. Demon’s Souls is one of those games that doesn’t come around very often and is a must have for fans of action and RPG games.
