Voice actress Nobuyo Oyama, famed for voicing children’s anime character Doreamon, will be voicing Mono Bear in the upcoming Playstation Portable (PSP) game, Dangan-Ronpa. Anyone who’s heard Doreamon’s voice will be in for a treat and surprise, considering that Mono Bear is an evil principal commanding the player to kill all fellow students. One of the world's largest annual anime themed concerts, Animelo Summer Live happened last week. The first day of the concert was broadcasted live on the popular Japanese video site, Nico Nico Douga. For people who missed the live stream, various clips have appeared online and we have included some inside. We will continue to update this post as we find more. Animelo Summer Live gathers some of the most popular anime related singers together with an attendance record of 50,000 people in 2009.
Fast Striker is a new arcade shooter coming out for the Sega Dreamcast this winter. Fast Striker was originally developed for the Neo Geo game system, but now has found itself onto the classic Sega system. The arrival of Fast Striker on the Dreamcast truly shows how the gaming community still supports the system.
Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury is making its way to Xbox LIVE Arcade sometime this fall. Fans can see it in action for the first time later this week at Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, Washington. As of now, more than 100 levels have been announced and players will also have access to a level editor. The game is known for its high speed action and barrage of missiles that fill the screen, much like a bullet hell shooter. No word yet on an exact release date, but a video of the Dreamcast version has been included for interested readers.
Anime short Cencoroll, originally produced and animated singlehandedly by Atsuya Uki in 2009, has been announced it will be getting a sequel. The story follows Yuki, a high school girl who discovers a strange shapeshifting creature named Cenco owned by her classmate, Tetsu. Popular musical group, supercell had produced the ending theme song for the short titled Love & Roll. The film has earned a Best Production Award at last year's Sapporo International Short Film Festival. Promotional image included inside.
American gamers will be able to get their hands on Golden Sun: Dark Dawn November 29. This will be the first Golden Sun game since Golden Sun: The Lost Age, which was released back in 2003. It's good to see this classic Game Boy Advance (GBA) series return for the Nintendo DS.
New features, such as IC Cards, mobile web integration, and new battle systems have been announced for Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. IC Cards have been a part of arcade games in Japan for a while, but it’s the first time it will be integrated with the Gundam VS series. It will track player progress and records. However, there is no word yet on whether this will mean customizable mobile suits, like customizable characters in Tekken 6 or Super Street Fighter IV. Mobile web integration will allow players to create an online profile and connect their IC cards to it. Extreme VS will retain the NEXT Dash in Gundam VS NEXT and add in new “Extreme Action” and “Awakening” abilities. Not much about what these will do exactly. More info inside.
Sega is planning both a TV drama and manga version of Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinsho to coincide with the game’s release. Both the drama and manga will feature original stories involving Tatsuya Ukyo, the game’s protagonist. While the manga will center on the Dragon Heat tournament, one of the events in the game, not much else has been revealed about either project. The drama will begin airing on October 5 and manga will debut in Weekly Young Magazine issue 42, which will hit stands September 18. More after the jump.
