Anime Expo 2012 Report

news fanimecon-2012

If there is one thing that Fanime 2012 will be remembered for, I am going to bet the general registration line is high on many people’s lists. While I understand that there was a power outage on Thursday, it was still a great test of patience to wait in line for five and a half hours simply to hand over your money to get in on Saturday. There were more than a few families who in the end decided to forego the line and simply spend the day outside the convention. It was my first Fanime, and I am sure that given the mass of people who waited in line with me, pre-registration was likely an afterthought for newcomers. If nothing else, the staff and volunteers were for the most part gracious, though it does nothing to change the disaster that was their pitiful logistical effort. To be fair, the Fanime staff didn’t want a power outage, but poor planning meant that a lot of people who toughed out the line ended up wasting the better part of the day. If I was a parent, such a poor show of forethought would certainly dampen my enthusiasm on making Fanime an annual family outing. If nothing else, Fanime can pat itself on the back for having hammered home the point that pre-registration is the better route.

FanimeCon 2011 Special Auction

Written by

On the last day of this year's FanimeCon, a special charity auction was held by one of the guests, Mamoru Yokota. Nineteen amazing colored sketch and autographs done by popular artists were up for auction including Rui Araizumi (Slayers mangaka [manga writer/creator]), Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin mangaka), Tamiki Wakaki (The World God Only Knows mangaka), and Akio Watanabe (Bakemonogatari Character Designer).

The grand total for the auctions came out to $38,800, with proceeds going towards the relief efforts in Japan. No organization was specified as the recipient for the money; however, it was stated that Yokota-san and his colleagues would be distributing food to areas affected with the auction money.

Interestingly, Warsuki's sketch of Kenshin netted $15,000 alone.

We have included the sketch images, descriptions, and final prices courtesy of FanimeCon.

E3 Final Fantasy XIII-2 Hands On Impression

Written by

Earlier this year, Square Enix announced the second direct sequel to be ever released for any Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy XIII-2. And knowing about the Final Fantasy franchise, their games never have any connections to the previous one. At E3, Square Enix happened to have a playable demo at their booth and I was able to get my hands on it. From what I can say, the game has been improved, but for better or worse? More after the jump!

Developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows platform, will this game be better than the current zombie titles such as Left 4 Dead or Dead Rising series? Continue reading for more information about the game.
