Check out the newest trailer released today by Netflix as we get a better look at the unique character designs provided by Russian illustrator Ilya Kusvashinov.
Netflix announced earlier today their upcoming lineup of new anime titles including GHOST IN THE SHELL: SAC_2045.
Rupert Sanders, director of Snow White and the Huntsman, has been chosen to direct the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. This project drifted around for sometime now since DreamWorks Studios bought the rights for the property in 2008. The script for the live-action adaptation will be written by William Wheeler (The Reluctant Fundamentalist, The Hoax).
At this year's Anime Expo, we got to speak briefly with Kazuchika Kise about his directorial debut with Ghost in the Shell: Arise. Mr. Kise has worked on a number of titles as a character designer and/or animation director on series including xxxHOLIC, Patlabor, Blood, and of course Ghost in the Shell. Hear what he had to say about some of the challenges working on Arise as well as the reasons behind the cosmetic change for of main character, Motoko Kusanagi!

Earlier this morning at a special launch event held by Bandai Visual, Production I.G revealed that Ghost in the Shell: Arise will be a prequel series consisting of four films that will revolve around a younger Motoko Kusanagi. Each film will run approximately 50 minutes each (similiar to an OVA) with the first titled Border 1: Ghost Pain releasing on June 22, 2013 in theaters along with advanced copies of the the Blu-ray disc for two weeks, with a general Blu-ray and DVD release later on July 26. All of the original voice cast have been replaced, Motoko Kusanagi is now voiced by veteran seiyuu Maaya Sakamoto.
