Batman Gotham Knight to be shown at Anime Expo stars

gotham knight axIt looks like Batman is set to take over both anime and the silver screen this summer. AX announced in a press release today that Batman Gotham Knight will be shown at the con two days before it is released on dvd. Set for release on July 8th on dvd and Blu Ray, Batman Gotham Knight is an anthology of six anime short films set between the events of Batman Begins and this summers' The Dark Knight. Produced by Studio 4ºC, Production I.G. and Madhouse, each short has its own artistic style and writing.
I'm a self-professed Batman junkie so his appearance at AX is great news. Batman + anime = something quite wondrous. The full press release can be found after the jump. (Click "Read more")

ADV Getting Back Into Gear with Manga Releases After Long Hiatus stars

yotsuba advI don't know whether to applaud ADV Manga for getting their release schedule back on track or to lambast them for depriving me of my precious Yotsuba&! for so long. See, Yotsuba&! Vol. 6 was originally slated for release this past February, but was never published after volume 5 saw release in October of last year. Granted, it's only been about 7 months since volume 5 was released so I shouldn't complai...HEY! What am I saying? That's much too long to wait for a single volume of manga. However, I am nonetheless glad to see the release train possibly rolling again for titles such as Cromartie High School, Gunslinger Girl, and of course Yotsuba&!. ADV's Chris Oarr gives Ain't It Cool News the full lowdown , explaining, among other things, that ADV Manga still exists.

[Eye Up] 1/8 scale Gurren Lagann Figures!!! stars

Yes I know, we haven't done any figure news in ages, but I couldn't let this slip by. Eye Up, formerly a figure producer and contractor, announced they would be starting their own figure line. Their first figures shown were a 1/8 scale Kamina with detachable glasses and cape, and a 1/8 scale Yoko with what a appears to be bullet accesories and a detachable Boota from her bosom. Eye Up has recently posted pictures of a their next products, including Simon riding the Lagann! They will also be making various keychain items you can hang off your phone such as one of Boota , and of Darry's stuffed animal. Their last figure annouced appears to be Darry wearing her pilot suit. You can bet that we will be reviewing the full set of figures. Kamina will be released in August 2008 for 8,190 yen, while Yoko will be released a month later in September for the same price.

'Shikabane Hime' - Gainax's New TV Series stars

shikabane himeI'm a bit late to the party, I know, but bear with me. ANN confirmed a couple days ago that Gainax's new TV series is Shikabane Hime, a TV adaptation of a horror manga with the same name. Hiroyuki Yamaga and Gurren Lagann producer Yasuhiro Takeda will co-produce while Chikashi Kubota, director of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, will design the characters including protagonist of the new series Makina Hoshimura. Shikabane Hime will air this fall.

Animating and Unlocking Gurren Lagann Panel stars

Gainax unlocks Gurren Lagann at FanimeCon 2008, bringing most of the production staff. Coming right off the Meet Gainax event, we trekked a couple blocks back to the convention center for the Unlocking Gurren Lagann Panel. Because the Meet Gainax event ran a bit long, this panel was pushed back to 9:30pm, a mere extra thirty minutes.

Fanime 08 - Meet Gainax Event stars

gainax meet

It's a nice, clear sky-ed Sunday evening and I'm shuffling over to the Fairmont Hotel - a couple blocks down from the actual convention center - for the Meet Gainax event. Walking pass the valet service and into the foyer I can't help but gaze at all the swanky cars with envy in my eyes and drool welling up in my mouth. Anyway, having no idea where the event room was, I stopped over at the hotel concierge service to inquire. I left the lobby with vague directions from a receptionist with a nearly incomprehensible accent, but eventually I found what I was looking for.

FanimeCon 08 Saturday Night stars

A few updates on how Fanime is going. The Masquerade was amazing this year, with a lot more fun skits than dull ones. Recorded every skit on film, and took pictures of every skit from the front row. Those should up ready by the end of ths week hopefully.

Incredibly I must note that the level of cosplayers have exponentially jumped this year compared to previous 5 years. Everywhere I go, I see costumes that really make my head turn with the amazing detail work involved. I've probably took around 200 photos so far and will have them up within the end of this week after resizing, white balancing, and watermarking.

Was unable to make it to the first Gainax Panel on Friday, but will be attending the Meet the Guests (Gainax) event and the "Animating and Unlocking Gurren Lagann" panel.

I was late about 15 minutes into Maika Netsu's panel, but we will be doing a one on one interview with her later today. Oddly enough, I was one of the winners for the raffle sketch session for Netsu-sensei. Will have pictures and scans up of it afterwards.

Troy, our Chief Photographer injured himself on Friday, and ended up returning home on Saturday morning. I apologize as the Head of The-O Network Online to all the cosplayers that had scheduled a photoshoot session with us. I will still be roaming around on Sunday and Monday doing my best to fill in for him.
