ultra street fighter iv web 001

Street Fighter IV has come a long way since being released back in 2009. The continuous support from Capcom has enabled the game to evolve, having gone through three major updates (i.e. Super Street Fighter IV, Super Street Fighter IV: AE, and Super Street Fighter IV: AE 2012). To maintain the momentum, Capcom, at this year's EVO (the biggest fighting game tournament in the world), revealed its next installment for the Street Fighter IV series. Known as Ultra Street Fighter IV, the game will have new contents that should appease fans of old and new.

(Hopefully) To Infinity And Beyond

In an era when home gaming and online play dominate, the arcade is definitely suffering. Among them is Arcade Infinity, or AI, one of the premiere arcades in Southern California that specializes in importing the most update games and keeping them in tip-top shape. Originally slated to close for good this past Saturday, AI hosted a final farewell party. Due to several generous parties, however, AI was saved and the farewell became a celebration instead.

Street Fighter/Tekken Crossover Confirmed!

At the Comic Con 2010 panel, SSFIV and Beyond, Producer Yoshinori Ono along with Tekken Producer Katsuhiro Harada announced a crossover project between Street Fighter and Tekken, making two games with two developers. There will be two versions: Street Fighter X Tekken created by Capcom and Tekken X Street Fighter by Namco. It will be interesting to see how Tekken characters will deal with projectile characters like Ryu and Ken. So far, the gameplay showed off Ryu from Street Fighter and Kazuya from Tekken. Let the speculations on characters begin!

UPDATE: A video just surfaced online. It shows off the 2-on-2 combat system, and confirms Chun Li and Nina Williams as two additional characters. Note that this is likely from Street Fighter X Tekken, due to the presence of Ultra moves and overall art style resembling that of Super Street Fighter IV. You can also check out the teaser trailer here.

EVO2010 Results

This year's Evolution Fighting Game Championships boasted some of the most surprising results to date. These included two pad players, Shizza and Vance “Vangief” Wu, placing top eight in Super Street Fighter IV, Taiwanese sensation Bruce “Gamerbee” Hsiang eliminating US champion Justin Wong, and top two placers for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix were both new school players, shutting out legends like Daigo Umehara and Jason “Afrocole” Cole. To America's devastation, Umehara managed to take the gold in Super Street Fighter IV, keeping northern California's EG.Ricky Ortiz at second place. A stream was available at both G4TV and Shoryuken, but it crashed several times throughout the weekend due to technical difficulties, most notably during the Super Street Fighter IV grand finals. Hopefully this won’t be an issue next year and the stream’s producers, Level|Up, will take note. Videos of the finals are available at EVO’s Youtube channel here. Results after the jump.

Keychains Feature Imaginary Battles

First shown on the official Japanese Street Fighter IV's Nakky blog a week ago, a keychain that replicates voice clips from Street Fighter II will be available in March. Bandai has also released a video showing the keychain in action, which includes the generic battle sound effects and voice clips feature we've seen in other gadgets before it. However, this one also includes an "imaginary battle" feature that allows users to fight against "imaginary opponents" and progress through the arcade mode using only the keychain. Better yet, different people who own keychains can fight against each other! Players who don't want to see their characters lose on screen should definitely look forward to these. Sadly, the previous set of Street Fighter IV keychains didn't make it to American shores, so these probably won't have much luck either. Hit the jump for the full video from Bandai.
