Yui Horie & Yoshihiko Katagiri SHOWMAKER Interview @ Anime Expo 2018

This year’s Anime Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center saw the return of a musical performance by virtual idol Miss Monochrome presented by SHOWMAKER. SHOWMAKER is a virtual stage creator app that features Miss Monochrome. Continuing from our interview from last year, we talked a little about the current state of SHOWMAKER as well future plans with Producer Yoshihiko Katagiri and the voice of Miss Monochrome, popular singer and voice actress, Yui Horie.
At this year's PAX West, Nexon's MapleStory director, Wonki Kang, told us they have high hopes and expectations with their newest update, titled The Black, to bring back new or returning players to the series. We got in touch with Kang, Global MapleStory director, Jungil Bae, Global MapleStory Product Manager, Anna Lee, and MapleStory Producer, Dennis Bernardo, to talk about the latest update, the lore of the Black Mage, the future of MapleStory and more. First debuting solo in 2008 as “agraph”, Kensuke Ushio is a Japanese composer with three albums so far. Ushio and other members also helped form the band LAMA in 2011 with NAKAKO (iLL/ex. supercar), Miki Furukawa (ex. supercar), and Hisako Tabuchi (bloodthirsty buchers/toddle). As a solo musician artist, Ushio has created music for various popular anime series and movies such as Ping Pong the Animation, Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and A Silent Voice. Along the way Ushio has also done remixing, producing, commercial music, and has continually created musical works in varying fields. While Ushio was at Anime Expo for the US premiere of Liz and the Blue Bird (Liz to Aoi Tori), he was able to spend some time with us for a short interview.
At this year's Anime Expo, Square Enix's mobile game producer Takaaki Kai told us with Star Ocean: Anamnesis, there were a lot of challenges involved to make sure that the game was still fun and intuitive on a mobile device. We got in touch with Kai and Star Ocean's character designer, Akiman, to talk about their involvement with Anamnesis, the direction of the Star Ocean franchise, and more. Inoue Azumi & Yuyu Interview @ J-POP Summit 2017

Fans of Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli movies were in for a treat at this year’s J-Pop Summit held in San Francisco. Azumi Inoue, best known for her singing in movies such as Laputa: Castle In The Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service, performed on stage alongside her daughter, Yuyu. We caught up with the mother-daughter duo to learn more about their musical influences.
Aniplex of America celebrated the English release of Fate/Grand Order (FGO) at this year’s Anime Expo. FGO is a popular mobile game based on the Fate series by Kinoko Nasu and TYPE-MOON that is currently the top grossing app in Japan on iTunes and Google Play. Right before the official panel, we had the opportunity for a very brief chat backstage with Creative Director Yosuke Shiokawa, Producer Atsuhiro Iwakami, and with Ayako Kawasumi who voices the iconic character, Saber.

Yui Horie/Miss Monochrome Interview @ Anime Expo 2017

SHOWMAKER is an up and coming user-generated game that is set to release this winter. The game will allow players to create a virtual live stage show performance in VR for the Vocaloid character, Miss Monochrome. Miss Monochrome has appeared in anime and manga, following the story of an android who is trying to become an idol. Celebrating the announcement for the game, we sat down with the game’s producers, Haruki Hayashi, Yoshihiko Katagiri, and esteemed voice actress Yui Horie who voices Miss Monochrome, at Anime Expo 2017.
During E3 2017 in Los Angeles, XSEED Games showcased one of their biggest projects for this year. Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash is a third-person shooter in the Senran Kagura series. The game is currently out in Japan and will be released in North America this summer. We sat down with the producer of the game, Kenichiro Takaki, during a short round table interview.
While in San Jose for Fanime-Con 2017, we sat down behind closed doors, with the voice actress Kanae Ito, who is best known for her work as Amu Hinamori in Shugo Chara!, Yui in Sword Art Online, Nobuna Oda in The Ambition of Nobuna Oda, Elsie de Lute Ima in The World God Only Knows, and Nana Astar Deviluke in To Love-Ru.
