Fairy Fencer F (PS3) Review

Fairy Fencer F is the latest PlayStation 3 exclusive to come from Japanese developer Compile Heart. With franchises like Mugen Souls, Hyperdimension Neptunia, and Record of Agarest War it's no surprise that this game is of the RPG genre.

The quirky game studio Nippon Ichi is back again with their latest title The Witch and the Hundred Knight but this time with an action game instead of the usual strategy RPGs that they are well known for. Even if this new title sports gameplay that is more akin to games like Path of the Exile and the Diablo series, don't let that fool you into thinking that The Witch and the Hundred Knight is no NIS game. Chock full of whimsy and maniacal fun, The Witch and the Hundred Knight has all the trademarks of the NIS brand: tons of humoristic scenarios and characters, surprising gameplay elements, and a very addictive battle system.

Guilty Crown (Blu-ray/DVD) Review

Originally aired on the famed Noitamina timeslot, Guilty Crown was easily considered to be one of the most hyped anime series in the Fall 2011 season. An action/adventure series set in a dystopian future, the technology in the world has advanced to a state where there are hand held computers and mechas, but there are still a plethora of issues. Years earlier a strain of virus called the Apocalypse Virus devastated much of the population. The government was able to step in and clean up the situation. All would seem well if it weren’t for the fact that there are obvious cases of military brutality against innocent people. Enter Shu Ouma, our young hero of the story. After meeting Inori and gaining use of the mysterious “King’s Power,” Shu holds the fate of the world in his hands.

Pandora Hearts (DVD) Review

Pandora Hearts is an anime set in an alternate European world and is a series that spans nearly a century of history. The anime's premise centers itself around a horrific event appropriately named the Tragedy of Sabrie and the handful of characters who are supposedly involved. Enter Oz Vessalius, an heir to one of the four great dukedoms, who has just turned 15. His life so far has been rather normal for a noble of his status as he has had the privilege of living in a posh mansion, being attended to by his loyal servants, and being free from most worries. However, on his "coming of age" day, everything takes a turn for the worst. Enigmatic personas in robes deem him guilty of a "hidden sin" and choose to cast him into an alternate dimension simply known as the Abyss. Upon his arrival to this dark prison, Oz is immediately attacked by Chains, monstrous creatures who inhabit the Abyss. Just before he is devoured by one, a Chain known as Alice comes to his rescue. Who is this Alice, why was Oz cast into the Abyss, and what other trials await him?

DESTROSE (Music) Review

Ready for some mind-melting heavy metal? DESTROSE is an all-girl metal band from Japan who has recently made their album debut in April. Reaching the number seven spot on Japan's Oricon indies' chart, DESTROSE seem to be making waves in the indie scene. Featuring beautiful girls who certainly know how to rock out, their ten track self-titled album serves as a fantastic introduction to music fans worldwide.

Mugen Souls (PS3) Review

Ready to conquer the universe? In NISA's newest import title Mugen Souls, you take on the role of the charismatic (and slightly hot-tempered) ChouChou. This daring self-proclaimed "goddess of the universe" has only one goal: to make everything in the galaxy belong to her just because she wants to. It's just not enough to conquer one planet in the solar system: you'll need to conquer all seven planets, their continents, and pretty much every life form that can be found. Luckily, she has a small crew and a ship to help make the journey easier.

Ether Vapor Remaster (PC) Review

Bullet hell shooters such as the Touhou series are frightening affairs to me, but a lot of people consider them to be fun and hectic games that provide a solid challenge to gamers worldwide. Ether Vapor Remaster is a recent addition to this genre. Brought to English-speaking audiences by the publisher Nyu-media, Ether Vapor was originally released in 2006 by the doujin company Edelweiss. I managed to snag a copy from a friend when it first came out, and upon hearing about the release of the ’remastered‘ version, I knew I had to try it.

Packed with magic, destruction, comedy, and epic battles galore, Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail has been a series that I personally have followed closely ever since I read the first chapter of the manga. So you can imagine how excited I was to hear that the animated series, which has over 120 episodes aired in Japan, was being licensed and released in North America. Fairy Tail Part Three was released for English speaking audiences by the lovely folks at FUNimation earlier this year.
